This is what I started with, (thanks Patti for sending it to me and thanks Lynn for the National Farmer's Union logos). I liked the idea. Especially the "Cooperation, Legislation, Education" part. I discarded the implements in the center and used a maile lei rather than the ti leaf lei.

The design to the right is beautiful. This was designed by a volunteer on The Big Island. It's only drawback is the number of colors since it would require 8 film and screens to reproduce faithfully onto a shirt. This is expensive. 4-color process printing could be used but only if printed on a white or natural shirt and we don't do that kind of printing here.
Here's my version of the triangular logo. I placed the island chain behind a monogram of "HFU" and spelled out "Hawai'i Farmer's Union" below.
Here it is in color....
And here's how the monogram could work on it's own as a shirt pocket print or letterhead etc.
A simple and elegant design that would work on any color shirt...
Changes:
I changed the font for HFU, the H and U are more Hawaiian and the f is more readable. I changed the hula dancer to a conch blower. I made the word “union” less prominent. I added some plants (taro).
